Richmond Good Life :: Best Restaurants in Richmond, VA :: Richmond, VA's Best Ice Cream

Richmond, VA's Best Ice Cream

This list will evolve over time as new restaurants enter, old ones leave or slip.

Name Address
(1) Gelati Celesti   8906 W Broad St # A
(804) 346-0038
Like Crom, Gelati Celesti sits atop the ice cream mountain, a king of kings laughing at the swarm of chains entering the market*. There is a reason why so many fine area restaurants outsource their ice cream to Gelati for their dessert menus.  Best In Richmond by this

Also, try Boyer's Ice Cream (5714 Patterson Avenue)...They use Gelati Celesti ice cream in their store!
(2) Ray's Italian Water Ice And Frozen Custard  3039 Lauderdale Dr (804) 360-8135
8023 West Broad St
Best frozen custard in town (not quite at the level of Carl's in Fredericksburg, but it'll suffice). True Philadelphia style Italian ice is another specialty
(3) Bev’s Homemade Ice Cream  2911 West Cary St (804) 204-2387
A mandatory stop before watching a movie at the Byrd. 2nd best traditional ice cream shop in Richmond.
(4) DeLuca Gelato 1362 Gaskins Rd (Gayton Crossing Shopping Center) (804) 741-3202
Best bet for Italian style gelato and sorbet. Maybe, the classiest "ice cream" shop in town.
(5) Club Car Ice Cream Desert Bar 113 S Railroad Ave Ashland, VA (804) 798-5632
They serve Garber's ice cream which is made in Winchester, Virginia. A lovely cone to watch the trains in Ashland.
(6) Dairy Bar Restaurant 1602 Roseneath Rd (804) 355-1937
Best hot diner food with milkshake combination.
* Lot of chain options in town as well (in order of my favorites):  Rita's Ice; Haagen-Dazs ; Ben and Jerry's; Maggie Moos; Friendly'sCarvel ; Brusters; Baskin-Robbins; Cold Stone Creamery ; Dairy Queen
