| Name | Address |
| (1) Iron Skillet Petro Truck Stop | 23866 Rogers Clark Blvd (I 95/ Rte 207) Ruther Glen, VA (804) 448-2381 (Bowling Green exit 104) |
| This truck stop is a mandatory visit if I'm driving up north, and it's not just for the cheap gas. This place is so American kitsch that it's genius. Everything from that weird "jenga" quarter game to phone card slot machines to an awesome gift store (think black light silkscreen tshirts with "Native American Ghost with Big Trucks" theme). The restaurant itself features a fair to middling buffet and Vegas like steak prices (of course, there's a reason that 20 oz t-bone's 9.99). I'm always too chicken to eat in the smoky "truckers-only" section. | |
| (2) Wise Choice Citgo | 1751 Ashland Rd, Rockville, VA. (804) 749-3335 (off the Rockville/Manakin exit I-64) |
| A great made-to-order breakfast sandwich in the morning (they hook you up with the bacon). For lunch/dinner, they specialize in pressure cooked fried chicken and incredible yeast rolls. | |
| (3) Joey's Hotdogs Exxon | 10400 Ridgefield Pkwy |
| I recently voted this place as my 2nd favorite hot dog in Richmond. They have only one item on their menu, and they do it very well. | |
| (4) Nader's Bistro & Grill Chevron | 5401 Glenside Dr (804) 282-2086 |
| Fantastic Mediterranean choices. Great gyros and pita sandwiches. Pizza is also quite good. Easily could be a stand alone restaurant. | |
| (5) Market Cafe Exxon | 10950 Nuckols Rd (804) 934-0144 (off Nuckols South I-295) |
| Not so much for the food (there is decent variety, and it's the closest thing we have in terms of a "gourmet gas station restaurant"), as it's all about the walk-in beer freezer (all kinds of domestics, imports, and exotics). Fill up your ice bucket, and walk over to the tented beer garden for live music. Getting drunk in a gas station feels so wrong that I don't want to be right. | |
| *There are a ton of gastaurants in the area that feature Blimpie's, Dairy Queen, McDonalds, and Subway | |
